Ramaphosa meets with Trump Amid Rising Tensions

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa today meets with his American counterpart Donald Trump at the White House. Their meeting occurs within a context marked by strained relationship between Pretoria and Washington.

During the meeting, discussions focus on topics including the need to condemn politicians who “promote genocidal rhetoric” and a push for South Africa’s government to classify farm attacks as a priority crime. According to White House Officials, US President Donald Trump will likely call on the South African Government to stop frighten away American investors.

Earlier this year, some white farmers have allegedly been killed in violent home invasions in South Africa. Allegations which were denied by the South African government which explained that these attacks are part of the country’s crime problem and not motivated by race, noting some Black farmers have also been killed.

The media agenda of both men includes scheduled interactions with the press during the bilateral meeting between President Cyril Ramaphosa and U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House.
