The cement production factory, located in the Mayo-Louti division of the North Region, will help retain capital within Cameroon.

This project aligns with the government’s current policy of import substitution. This major achievement represents not only a step forward for cement production in the northern regions but also opens up possibilities for exportation to neighboring countries.

According to Xavier Legrand, Managing Director of CIMENCAM, the new facility will produce 500,000 tons of cement per year. “This is five times the production capacity of the old plant. It will allow us to supply all the northern regions of Cameroon and Chad,” he emphasized.

The six-billion CFA cement and clinker production unit was officially inaugurated in Figuil by Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, Head of Government of Cameroon. While commissioning the factory on behalf of President Paul Biya, he confirmed that the launch of this new infrastructure marks a milestone in the country’s development.

“It’s the first of its kind in Cameroon. We visited the entire factory it’s very modern. It’s important to emphasize that this is a step forward in Cameroon’s industrialization,” he explained.

The inauguration of the new cement and clinker production unit brings hope and relief to many Cameroonians in the northern regions, where poverty remains a significant challenge.
